When you are using fresh ingredients you can keep it very simple and still have a wonderful meal.
If you are not really into fishing there are many other things that you can do. You can take a nice boat ride or if you like to canoe you can take a canoe trip on a lake or down a river. If you have always wanted to canoe but have not had the chance there are places that will give you lessons free or cheap. When you rent the canoe you can choose the distance and time of your trip. Spending the day on the river is one of the great cheap things to do in summer. Even after renting the canoe you will find that you did not spend much money. If you are taking a long trip you can pack a lunch or you can normally purchase on one the trip.

If you are not a big fan of the outdoors you can always go to an art expedition or even to the zoo or an aquarium.
